My friend and Inc.com colleague Damon Brown recently published an insightful new book, Build From Now. As Damon points out in his book, our biggest hurdle today isn’t finding the right hack, the latest trend, or the obscure secret to producing more output, but instead realizing that accepting our limitations actually improves our results.

According to Damon, each and every one of us has four different resources that we can draw from:

Focus: The ability to avoid distractions and stay on task until it is completed, or well enough along to make substantial forward progress.

Agility: The ability to move quickly, responding to fast-changing customer needs, or a changing marketplace.

Time: The ability to make the most of the 24 hours we have been granted for each day of the week — not just to produce better work outcomes, but also better life outcomes.

Energy: The ability to power through whatever it is you need to get done, when you need to do it. This requires time set aside for fun, rest, and recuperation.

We have more or less of each of these four resources at any given time, depending on where we are in our lives. When you know your strengths, and when you are able to use these resources to your benefit, you’ll be more productive, more creative, and more inspired.

Forever.

The key is to learn how to take the resources you have already have to help create the world you want to see. It’s within our power to do so. But first you need to understand where your power and strength lie.

Wondering where your own power and strength lie? Damon has put together a brief quiz that will help you start your journey.

As the old saying goes, every great journey starts with a single step.

Commit to taking that first step now.
